Climbing and Breakthrough

— Liang Lu

In the long river of life, everyone is the helmsman of his own destiny. In the face of wind and rain, some people choose to take shelter, while others choose to ride the wind and waves and move forward courageously. In the tennis court of the 2024 Paris Olympics, Zheng Qinwen, with her indomitable spirit, interpreted the magnificent chapter of “being strong in the bleakness and flying in the headwind”, and wrote a rich and colorful stroke in the history of Chinese tennis.

“I broke through my own limits, so when I won this victory, I couldn’t control my emotions at all.” In the tennis match of the Paris Olympics, Zheng Qinwen used her tenacity and hard work to embody the power of women. Women’s power is no longer an abstract concept, but Zheng Qinwen’s courage in every swing of the racket, every drop of sweat, and every rise in adversity. Her performance on the court is the most vivid interpretation of women’s power. Her story also inspires us that women can show unique strength and charm in both sports and other fields.

In the past two years, Zheng Qinwen and Swiatek have met 6 times. In every match, she was the loser, and even “defeated” several times. In the hearts of some tennis fans, Swiatek has almost become a “nightmare” for Zheng Qinwen, and some people say that Swiatek is Zheng Qinwen’s “unsolvable opponent”. Until the start of the Olympic semi-finals, some netizens said that Zheng Qinwen should “save her energy and fight for the bronze medal”, but no one at the scene could have imagined that Zheng Qinwen could win back four games in one breath against Swiatek, who is ranked first in the world and has won four French Open titles at Roland Garros. In the end, in the seventh match between the two, Zheng Qinwen won 6:2, 7:5.

“Yesterday was the most difficult match physically and mentally, and today was a breakthrough for my overall strength and willpower. Because I finally broke through the barriers in my mind. I finally proved that I can beat her on the field where she is best. I always knew I could do it, but knowing and doing are different, and today I really did it. I am proud of myself and my country. I now feel that my mentality has been elevated to a new level.”

Zheng Qinwen was born in Shiyan, Hubei in 2002. When she was 6 years old, she went to Beijing with her father to watch the Olympic Games and fell in love with tennis. From her dedication to growing up along the professional route when she was young, to her experience of studying in different places at different stages, to the advantages and talents accumulated through hard work, all of these pushed Zheng Qinwen to pursue higher goals. After winning the Australian Open semi-finals, some people called Zheng Qinwen a “dark horse”. In fact, Zheng Qinwen had already made her mark in many international competitions before entering the Grand Slam. She said: “No game is a turning point in my career. I have walked step by step and steadily to where I am today.”

A seed, after ten years of trials and tribulations, finally grew into a towering tree. Zheng Qinwen has been exposed to professional and international training since she was a child, with a clear goal to become a top player. With hard work and persistence along the way, the young Zheng Qinwen became the second Chinese player to enter the top ten in the world. Her greatest characteristics are “independence, self-confidence, and self-discipline”. She has a strong internal drive, is domineering on the court, and has a murderous look in her eyes. As the saying goes, “Young people are proud and frivolous, so why fear the smoke and frost of the world.” For the 21-year-old Zheng Qinwen, her story has just begun.

Those who seem braver than you are just as scared as you are; they are just whistling louder in the dark.

At the moment of winning the match point, Zheng Qinwen once again threw away her racket and lay down on the clay court that brought her the greatest glory. Breaking through the limits and surpassing herself, Zheng Qinwen created a new history of Chinese tennis with an Olympic women’s singles gold medal. “I think it is a great honor to win glory for my country.” She saved the match point in the third round and defeated the world’s number one for the first time, and swept the final to win the championship, fulfilling her promise.

In fact, climbing to the top of the mountain is not for the whole world to see you, but for you to see the whole world. It is easy for people to have dreams, but it is difficult to persist. Sometimes you will forget the way you came when you go too far. Only by not forgetting your original dream can you get what you want in the end.

Three skills of an excellent inspector

— Wang Qi

Quality is produced, not tested. This sentence has far-reaching significance for manufacturing companies, revealing that production quality is closely related to the comprehensive capabilities of on-site IPQC inspectors and the quality awareness of production employees.

Audit of materials and process technology

IPQC must be very familiar with the materials, and for all materials that are ready to go online, they must check whether the IQC inspection PASS stamp, material code, material name and supplier name are consistent with the BOM requirements.
1. When checking materials, it must be completed within the period from when the materials are received on the production line to before production starts.
2. When checking materials, the BOM table must be used as the basis, and the BOM table, IQC PASS stamp, and actual materials must be consistent.
3. Check the materials carefully and comprehensively, from the bottom shell to the screws, and do not miss any item.
After the material audit is OK, production will begin. IPQC will also audit the process in the process, whether the production line has a process flow chart and SOP, and whether the process ranking and employee operations are consistent with the flow chart and SOP.
Saying something does not mean doing it, and doing something does not mean doing it well. To do everything well, you have to do it seriously. There is no other shortcut.

Problems found through observation, auscultation, questioning and palpation

Doctors have five major techniques of “observation, auscultation, questioning and palpation” when diagnosing patients. This method should also be used in quality control to make the inspection methods more complete.

  • “see” means to look at or check: Quality inspectors are required to implement the tasks one by one in a down-to-earth manner, and problems can generally be discovered.
  • “smell” — meaning to listen: It is to enhance the sensitivity to things, and be good at accepting other people’s opinions, and to scrutinize them so as to discover or prevent problems.
  • “Ask” – to understand or inquire: You should ask the employees on the production line more about the production situation, because they are personally operating and are most familiar with the production situation. However, they don’t know much about the post-processing and cannot clearly judge the quality and what the impact is.
  • “Cut” — Do it yourself and find the reason by yourself: You should look at things with doubts in your head, do some structural and implicit things, and always judge things from the perspective of conformity and applicability. If you combine these points and use them comprehensively, you will get twice the result with half the effort.
We should pay more attention to the defective products picked out by employees. Sometimes we have not discovered the problem, but the employees have. We should collect the defective information in time and then make corresponding countermeasures.

In the work of IPQC, we should be good at discovering problems from different angles. At the same time, we should be bold and careful. We should not be hesitant. We should make decisive decisions on products and be decisive. We should not procrastinate, because procrastination gives people a bad impression and wastes opportunities. Some problems should be left unresolved, which would lead to chaos.

Disagreement, communication to reach consensus

Quality control and production, one is responsible for quality and the other is responsible for efficiency. With different standpoints and perspectives, they have different understandings of things and it is normal for them to have different opinions. However, we cannot have conflicts just because one person says no and the other says yes. We need to calm down and discuss and reach a consensus. If IPQC disagrees with production due to standard issues at work, they should first raise the issue to the production line. If they do not accept it, they should promptly raise the issue to their direct superiors and obtain the support of their superiors in order to better carry out their work.

At work, we must do things well, no matter what method we use, but we must be reasonable and principled. When IPQC is working on the production line, if the line leader or employees do not cooperate, we will feel that there is no way out or that the work is too hard, and we will lose our enthusiasm. We always find faults in others and say that others do not cooperate. Have you ever calmed down and thought about it? The existing resistance and our attitude are in our hands. Whether to advance or retreat is in our hands. Which one do you want to choose? Do you want to deal with this difficulty or retreat?
“Nothing in the world can be accomplished by one person alone. If you want to accomplish something, you must work together with people of the same kind.” Interpersonal relationships at work are very important. To improve quality, you cannot rely on one or a few people to get things done. It requires the joint efforts of all staff and the improvement of concepts.

It is wrong to reject criticisms of our poor work or suggestions for improvement that we think are disadvantageous to us, or even to glare at them. We should accept them with an open mind, analyze and improve our shortcomings, and “absorb the essence and discard the dross” of different suggestions, constantly enrich ourselves, and constantly improve our professional level and concepts.
